2nd Hitch aboard KM-1

Well, at long last...I had a few thoughts before this that I wanted to continue writing here but things weren't going that well for me...

First things first, I just noticed that today is 10th of December 2010. Well I started this blog on 12 december 2009, so almost a year, should be celebrated, that is. I started this blog on a Jack up drilling rig named West Janus. Later on I had stopped writing because I jumped here and there, and some of the rig I went to had no internet connection in the mud lab. that's why..

At the time of writing I'm aboard Kencana Marine-1 or KM-1. it is a tender BTW, a very large tender made in Lumut, Perak and owed 60% by malaysian and the rest to Singaporeans. Been working on this tender for my second hitch now and this are going well, from my POV (point of view). The rooms were of different sizes. On my first hitch, the rooms were medium sized, come this hitch I was given a different room number. Later after briefing I found out that the room is very large. This room must have been booked by my lead engineer Saidi because I can see that he's quite pro active. Well, I do enjoy the new room as the first room we had, the toilet flush was not working and the shower had only boiling water coming out. we had to shower using the flexible hose. The flexible hose itself was quite"rare" in design. In order to get in working, we must first open the tap on the sink, then only push the lever on the flexible hose...hmmm I was thinking that how cana rig be this new and the design was already weird. Furthermore the toilet...it just won't flush. We had to get rid of it by flushing using the wastebasket which we put in the toilet permanently...

The current room we had is VERY big and caused a feeling of uneasiness at first. But I guess later on I managed to put that aside because the work on the first few days were very taxing (more on that later).

The picture on the left is me with my other lead engineer, Mohd Fariq Hamid. The picture was taken on my first hitch, on a platform offshore Kota Kinabalu, Erb West. We encountered ost circulation then and later operations decided to cement the zone. So there we were looking from above the seadeck valve monitoring wether any returns nor cement coming out, but alas, none.

I travelled to Kota Kinabalu from Kuala Lumpur's LCCT with AirAsia flight at 5:15pm and landed safely around 7:30pm. Checked in at Imperial Hotel (booked earlier) and slept for the night. The next morning, took a cab to jesselton Point and travelled by crew boat name Borneo-1 (if not mistaken). Came onboard KM-1 lifted by the crane operator.

This hitch, like I said earlier, was very taxing. When I came onboard, Saidi had the new mud Opta-Flo ready to be displaced. The current hole had HyPR-Drill inside so we had to displace it as were we going to drill in the payzone.(??) - thus the solids free mud, made up of saturated brine up to 10ppg using NaCl and other chemicals...

Just came back from the mud pits...being called by the pumpman...the mud overflowed from some pits on to the mud pit floor...wow, what a sight....managed to trace it back. Somehow the suction valve from Slug pit #1 was partially open. That settled it for the day. Previously the assistant pumpman had some problems when he circulated pit no. 4 to mix KMC Cide. However, geoservices paged and tole me that the pit were going down ...fast...We were unable to trace the culprit then...extra work for the pumpman tonight...
