2nd Hitch aboard KM-1

Well, at long last...I had a few thoughts before this that I wanted to continue writing here but things weren't going that well for me...

First things first, I just noticed that today is 10th of December 2010. Well I started this blog on 12 december 2009, so almost a year, should be celebrated, that is. I started this blog on a Jack up drilling rig named West Janus. Later on I had stopped writing because I jumped here and there, and some of the rig I went to had no internet connection in the mud lab. that's why..

At the time of writing I'm aboard Kencana Marine-1 or KM-1. it is a tender BTW, a very large tender made in Lumut, Perak and owed 60% by malaysian and the rest to Singaporeans. Been working on this tender for my second hitch now and this are going well, from my POV (point of view). The rooms were of different sizes. On my first hitch, the rooms were medium sized, come this hitch I was given a different room number. Later after briefing I found out that the room is very large. This room must have been booked by my lead engineer Saidi because I can see that he's quite pro active. Well, I do enjoy the new room as the first room we had, the toilet flush was not working and the shower had only boiling water coming out. we had to shower using the flexible hose. The flexible hose itself was quite"rare" in design. In order to get in working, we must first open the tap on the sink, then only push the lever on the flexible hose...hmmm I was thinking that how cana rig be this new and the design was already weird. Furthermore the toilet...it just won't flush. We had to get rid of it by flushing using the wastebasket which we put in the toilet permanently...

The current room we had is VERY big and caused a feeling of uneasiness at first. But I guess later on I managed to put that aside because the work on the first few days were very taxing (more on that later).

The picture on the left is me with my other lead engineer, Mohd Fariq Hamid. The picture was taken on my first hitch, on a platform offshore Kota Kinabalu, Erb West. We encountered ost circulation then and later operations decided to cement the zone. So there we were looking from above the seadeck valve monitoring wether any returns nor cement coming out, but alas, none.

I travelled to Kota Kinabalu from Kuala Lumpur's LCCT with AirAsia flight at 5:15pm and landed safely around 7:30pm. Checked in at Imperial Hotel (booked earlier) and slept for the night. The next morning, took a cab to jesselton Point and travelled by crew boat name Borneo-1 (if not mistaken). Came onboard KM-1 lifted by the crane operator.

This hitch, like I said earlier, was very taxing. When I came onboard, Saidi had the new mud Opta-Flo ready to be displaced. The current hole had HyPR-Drill inside so we had to displace it as were we going to drill in the payzone.(??) - thus the solids free mud, made up of saturated brine up to 10ppg using NaCl and other chemicals...

Just came back from the mud pits...being called by the pumpman...the mud overflowed from some pits on to the mud pit floor...wow, what a sight....managed to trace it back. Somehow the suction valve from Slug pit #1 was partially open. That settled it for the day. Previously the assistant pumpman had some problems when he circulated pit no. 4 to mix KMC Cide. However, geoservices paged and tole me that the pit were going down ...fast...We were unable to trace the culprit then...extra work for the pumpman tonight...

Look, no rigs!!

At the time of writing we are actually on a much later date, but I had to write because I want the dates to be remembered. I want it to be remembered because in this line of job, never had I been on leave for more than 38 days (+- 6 weeks). I want it remembered because I was on leave for 89 days (that's 12 weesk + 5 days) if you must ask.

There were positive things and there were negaive things as well. Those positive things were because I had te chance to reflect upon myself and really study in which direction I am really going. I am really 31 years old now, married and have 3 children, this is a stage where I must really decide and make my choices...

The the bad things were....like I'm unable to balance my debts and cashflow. Thank god there were still some money left stashed somewhere. Things seem quite uncertain with this and that. But of course life must go on so me and my wife just put on a brave face and faced the consequences..Even if there were close friends or relatives, what can they do? the most id just help off for one months...then what? Things like this made my mind remember a movie by Jim Carrey where he was at the top of his game when everything suddenly crumbled. WOW...really. Can't remember the title but will update if I find it.

DD3 New Location: Lang-1, offshore Kerteh

Here I am with Bungang of KST during our time at Anjung Kecil which we encountered severe losses...

Banyak org banyak cengkadak

Hari ni aku dah abis cement liner 7 inci, so lepak je takde kerja sangat, just nak update sket sket je.

Sementara takde kerja ni lah aku berchatting dgn bos aku kat KL thru YM. Kesimpulan yang aku boleh kata ialah kengkadang kita rasa mcm tak besh pasal masa dia perlukan kita dia berbaik dgn kita, masa dia tak perlukan...hmmm

And most importantly, it's not what you say, but how you said it. I made a joke but he went offline, I was like WTF??

Well boss, today is your day, I''ll just play along.

First try. On a Drilling Rig Offshore Bintulu.

It has suddenly struck me that I wanted to blog. Just suddenly. Well here goes nothing.

This blog is for everything that involves around me and maybe the story of my life. I'll try not to expose my private life here, but sometimes there's a limit, and limitation is subjective.

I'm on a drilling rig named West Janus, currently located offshore Bintulu. Operation has certainly slowed down since the well has already suspended. Next, they will move the rig somewhere 50m to the north (is it??) to allow a platform to be installed on the current site.

At the time of writing, I am waiting for my chopper which is approximately 18hours away. Haha, waiting? you might ask but I'm actually trying to kill time. I have had very good sleep these past few days. Compared to when I arrived here a week ago, time is not in our favour. We were running here and there. It had been a long time since I set foot on West Janus. I am a jumper. Nobody cares. Not me. I'm at your service. Period. At least for the time being haha.

Was working 12 hours each with my colleague when he suddenly received a call from home in the middle of the night. He had to go back the next morning as his one-year old daughter had burns, in feat to climb up the kettle's wire. Imagine the worst. Yes.

To make thing bad, the scheduled chopper to arrive at 9.30 am was delayed to 3.35pm because of some communications gear. Off course, he missed his flight back home to Kuala Lumpur. To add salt to the injury, when I called him tomorrow morning at 11.30am, he was still in Bintulu Airport. Turned out the Airasia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bintulu @ 9.30 am were also delayed, I didn't kow why, and I doubt my friend knows why too.

Well, I feel sorry for him. Let's pray for a speedy recovery.

p/s - when you really badly needs to get home, that is the time you should calm yourself down.
